My Dell Computer will not Boot to Windows 10

If you have purchased a Dell computer running Windows 10 and it does not boot up or you get a message that reads “no boot device found,” the BIOS settings may have been inadvertently reset. The good news is that there is a simple way to check and see. There are some settings that we need to verify and potentially change in the BIOS that will allow your PC to properly boot to the Windows 10 Operating System. Simply follow the steps below.

  1. Turn Off your Computer.
  2. Power the Computer back On.
  3. Immediately and repeatedly tap the “F2” key on your keyboard while the Dell Logo Screen is visible until the computer enters the BIOS Settings screen.
  4. On the left side of the screen under the “General” tree, click the words “Boot Sequence.”
  5. On the right side of the screen, you will see “Legacy” and “UEFI”. Be sure “Legacy” is selected.
  6. Next, click on the “System Configuration” Menu on the right side of the screen and press Enter.
  7. Under the “System Configuration menu, click on “SATA Operation.”
  8. On the right side of the screen, be sure “AHCI” is checked. If it is not, click it. If you see a message asking you to confirm this choice, click “Yes.”
  9. In the bottom right corner of the screen, click “Apply” then Click “Exit”.
  10. The computer will restart and boot directly into Windows 10.

If these changes did not resolve the problem or your settings were already properly configured you will want to verify that the SATA and Power cables did not vibrate loose or become disconnected during shipping. To do this, simply remove the side panel of the PC case. Locate the hard drive and be sure both the SATA and Power cables are properly and securely attached the hard drive.
